Kaleidoscope Play & Learn

Kaleidoscope Play & Learn

What is Kaleidoscope Play & Learn?

Kaleidoscope Play and Learn is an organized play group for young children and the people who take care of them – their grandparents, aunts, uncles, other family members and family friends. Our toddler group and our school-age group has facilitators who plan and set up activities for the children and their caregivers to play together. Facilitators help caregivers learn more about child development, how children learn through play and what caregivers can do at home to help the children in their care grow and learn.

Why is Kaleidoscope Play & Learn important?
We know that the early years of life are crucial in setting the stage for later success in school and life. Children are born learning and it’s important for the people who take care of children to know that. It’s also important for them to know how they can support children’s learning and healthy development and what they’re doing has a life-long impact on the child. Kaleidoscope Play & Learn is an effective way to help caregivers learn more about child development, how children learn and what they can do at home to help the children in their care to grow and learn.

Our evaluation shows that the majority of caregivers not only learn what they can do, but they also report that they are doing more things at home to support early learning (e.g., reading books more often, teaching children to count, participating in other early learning activities).

Through Kaleidoscope Play & Learn, caregivers learn that they do not need fancy toys or equipment or degrees in child development to make a positive difference. They can help children learn by supporting them, talking with them and providing them with time and attention and things at home that they can explore and play with.

We Integrate Baby Doll Circle Time™ into Our Kaleidoscope Play & Learn Activities
Baby Doll Circle Time™ provides the opportunity for young children to experience being the nurturer by interacting with their baby dolls in the same ways that we as caring adults might interact with them. Children develop best within the context of caring relationships.
As the children play with their dolls, they relive and strengthen the attachment and connection that they have with their caregivers and parents. Baby Doll Circle Time™ is a way to ensure that children experience the attachment, attunement, and social play required for optimal brain development. The goals of Baby Doll Circle Time™ are to: enhance attachment, increase self-regulation, promote trust, and foster attunement skills.
